Hi all,Just memorized this piece trancribed by David Russel. I like it a lot. It will take some time however to play it to speed. I'm presently practising it at 160 per eigth note to cover the difficult parts and working my way up. Does anyone know this Gigue by Handel and play it also ? Except for using the metronome to improve my speed, does anyone have tips on how to develop this song to perfection...or almost |

I know two Handel pieces (Minuet, and Theme & Variation) as played by Parkening, but not the Gigue about which you speak. Is it on a David Russel recording? |

Yes its on his CD - David Russel's plays Baroque Music. It has Haendel , Bach and Scarlatti pieces.I bought the CD and his Transcriptions once I saw his internet site. Actually I liked the video where he plays Passacaille from Handels Suite VII. I've begun learning that as well, but I'm concentrating on the Gigue for now. I'm also planning on learning Handel's Sonate in A minor(HWV 362) which will be a big challenge. But that's what classical guitar is all about |

Since the piece is in 12/8, it might help you to practice with your metronome set on the dotted 1/4s instead of the 8th's. By practicing with the 8th's, you're effectively playing with 12 beats to the measure instead of 4, and lose the feeling of the 3 notes to each beat.I don't play this piece, but just started working on the passacaille from the same suite (backwards, if anyone's keeping score ) --Jeff |

Hi Jeff, Thanks for your input. Actually that's what I do once I get the timing achieved on a note per note. I then change it to slower the metronome clicks. By the way, Passacaille is what got me to play Suite VII. I Love that song. Learnt the first page of it and thats when I went and started learning the Gigue Plan on getting back to Passacaille though. How about those quick chord changes at start oops, you haven't got there yet. [This message has been edited by RockPeter (edited 08-12-2004).] |

Actually, I was kind of kidding about learning it backwards. Sort of. I started on the theme, and then jumped to the final variation (what a finish!), and have been reading through and refingering some of the other variations. You're right about those chords in the theme --there are some pretty serious shifts there, huh? Lovely piece, though! --Jeff |
