I've got the Stephen Bennett book as well and I have to say there's not a filler tune in there. They're all very well thought out. I even bought the flatpicking book even though I've never flatpicked in my life!
My favorites from the fingerpicking book are:
Life's Too Short,
Good Dog,
Lady Bird,
I Knew It Was You

That's the list for now anyway. It changes pretty regularly but Life's Too Short is always in the list. The rhythm is definitely the hardest part and as you say, there's a lot of negotiable stuff there.
