Ron G has THE BEST site for all your folk chord needs. Gillian and David are playing right up the street from me in Hartford, CT tomorrow night but atlas I can't go, seeing as I am but a poor college student and tickets are $17.50. :-( The only time I've ever heard David talk on stage was when he told my friend to be quite because she was singing along very loudly and throwing him off. She was mortified, I thought it was funny. Anyway, yah these guys are great. |

That is a great site, and Ron's a great guy. Is that a Taylor 512? I have one I keep in DADGAD, great little guitar, the engelman top really helps with the fingerstyle stuff. Enjoy the music! quote: Originally posted by guitar girl: Thanks for the link, some great sites, can't wait to get home to the 512!!

EDavis, I have Revival, Time (The Revelator) and Soul Journey. I think of the three I own, Time (The Revelator) features David Rawlings playing the most. |

Yes we just got a Taylor 512ce a couple of weeks ago, lovely guitar indeed! Englemann top, gloss mahagony - I can't believe the difference it makes - I've an older Larrivee which is currently in for some work, and it's a lovely sounding guitar too, but this Taylor adds a whole other level of sound, mature, yet clear, I wish I played better to do it justice, but I'll tell you, the calluses on my fingers sure have bloomed the last few weeks! John B thanx for the response, I'm on my way to go get the CD you felt featured Rawlings guitar the most of the 3 you have. I've seen them a few times on TV and really enjoyed the performance. |

I saw Gillian a while back at the Beachland Ballroom in Cleveland. The show was in a hall with no seating with a sell out show. After working 10 hours in my UPS truck I was looking forward to a nice show.People were packed in like sardines but I was right up to the stage. I sat my beer (Guinness) on the stage along with my camera bag (which had my minidisc recorder in it) and took pictures during the show. During the second set Rawlings saw my microphone, ripped it out of the bag and tossed it to the back of the stage and gave a mini-lecture about how if he sees recording and ignores it he is promoting it. Oh well. Great show but these old bones have a hard time standing for two hours after a long day at work. I was seriously impressed with Rawlings guitar work though. |

Wow! Saw Sweet Harmony Travelling Revue last night in Portsmouth, Va......Emmylou Harris, wonderful and gracious as always, Buddy Miller, who knew how great he is?, Patty Griffin, just terrific, and David Rawlings and Gillian Welch, how does he do what he does with a guitar? He moves his whole head and body, not unlike one of those "bobbing dogs" in the back of a car, incredible playing and she just keeps getting better. Two and half hours of sheer pleasure in the pouring Virginia rain! Dont' miss this show.... |

Re Annabelle chords: That B7 is awkward when capo'd at the 5th fret, hard to fit my fingers. Any other shape I can use? Thanks. |

Thanks for chords, I'll try 'em out. Yeah, Annabelle is a good song, but this is America in 2004 and the TV tells me we CAN have all things to please us!

Since OCMS was mentioned, I thought I might give them another quick plug. I've never seen them live, but a while back I found a video of a show they did for the Woodsongs Oldtime Radio Hour. They're really a fun group. The front man is hilarious. During the show, he tells the story of how OCMS was introduced to Doc Watson and subsequently invited to play MerleFest. Worth checking out for sure. www.woodsongs.com - just scroll down through the archives.Frank |
