Acoustic Guitar Sessions Presents John Doe

Posted by David Knowles

Weeks before the release of The Best of John Doe: This Far, a new greatest hits collection, John Doe, the founder of the trailblazing Los Angeles punk band X as well as the influential alt-country band The Knitters, sat down with Acoustic Guitar Sessions to talk about his songwriting legacy.

Doe, who now resides in Northern California, spoke about the birth of alt-country, the value of novelty in entertainment, and how his songwriting has changed over the past four decades.

In a "This is Your Life" moment, Acoustic Guitar Production Manager Hugh O'Connor surprised Doe by presenting him with the Gibson that Doe used to record the first Knitters album. O'Connor purchased the Gibson from a friend of Doe's in the 1990s, after Doe had moved on to other acoustics.
