X Announces 'West Coast Acoustic Tour'
The band X has something of a “wild gift” for acoustic guitar fans—the venerable Los Angeles punk rockers just announced their first-ever acoustic tour of the West Coast.
The West Coast Acoustic Tour will kick off on the heels of X’s July 10 to 13 slate of shows at the Roxy Theatre in Hollywood—in which, on successive nights, the band will perform their first four albums in their entirety. But after that, the punk pioneers head north with their acoustic-equipped gig bags, launching the unprecedented unplugged excursion July 19 at Pappy & Harriet’s in Pioneertown, and wrapping up the summer set of acoustic engagements with a pair of headlining shows August 2 and 3 at the Pickathon Festival in Oregon.
While singer Exene Cervenka, bassist John Doe, and drummer DJ Bonebrake have worked together occasionally over the years as their alt-country alter egos, the Knitters, the upcoming West Coast Acoustic Tour marks one of the rare times all four original members have unplugged for multiple shows.
It promises to be an especially memorable summer for Doe. Not only is the acoustic cow-punk’s tour schedule full, but he’s celebrating the recent release of his solo anthology, The Best of John Doe: This Far—and he’ll grace the cover of AG’s September issue, hitting the stands later this summer.
Until then, check out the above clip of Doe and former X guitarist Dave Alvin performing a live acoustic version of “See How We Are” from 1986.
