Paco de Lucia, Flamenco Guitar Master, Dead at 66
Renowned flamenco guitarist Paco de Lucia passed away in Mexico on Wednesday at the age of 66.
A native of Spain, De Lucia was one of the world's most highly respected flamenco players, and expanded the genre's appeal in the 1970s by mixing it with jazz on collaborative albums with guitarists John McLaughlin and Al Di Meola.
His dexterity and skill on the guitar were second to none, and many who saw him perform live likened it to a spiritual experience.
According to the New York Times, De Lucia died on his way to the hospital, after complaining of feeling ill while at a beach in Cancun. The video above shows De Lucia performing in 2006.
