Neil Young Announces Launch of PonoMusic

Posted on March 10, 2014 | by Amber von Nagel

Neil Young's new portable, hi-res music player and media-management system, PonoMusic, will be unveiled at SXSW on March 11. The device, PonoPlayer, is reportedly priced at $399 and come with 128GB of memory. Targeted at audiophiles, PonoMusic is designed to offer the highest-quality audio playback on portable players to date. The device is made with zero-feedback circuitry and a digital filter that stops "unnatural pre-ringing." It can hold 100–500 hi-res albums, depending on the length and resolution of each album, and will accommodate memory cards for larger collections of music.

PonoMusic will also have an online store where customers can purchase hi-res digital music as well as earbuds and headphones optimized for hi-res music listening.

The company will be launching a Kickstarter campaign on March 15 to open the PonoPlayer for pre-order. Although, while Kickstarter is a great platform to collect pre-orders, it's interesting that a company with what seems to be a strong monetary backing would use Kickstarter to launch their product. Either way, the PonoPlayer looks like the perfect portable device for audiophiles. We here at Acoustic Guitar can't wait to check it out!
