Martin Unveils Summer Limited-Edition Guitars
Summer days seem to disappear so quickly—and so do summer limited-edition Martin guitars, if you don’t hurry.
C.F. Martin & Co. has un-cased this season’s line of 2014 custom limited-edition models. Here are the highlights:
CS-GP-14 A rare, non-cutaway version of Martin’s grand-performance shape, featuring Guatemalan rosewood back and sides, with a European spruce top; the solid-mahogany neck is tapered for fast playability. Side sound port by Fishman is designed specifically for the guitar’s unique size and body. Limited to 50 guitars, list price is $8,499.
D-28 Louvin Brothers Custom Signature Edition This 1955-style dreadnought has a Sitka-spruce top featuring a special photographic imprint inspired by the Louvin Brothers’ renowned Satan is Real album cover, supported by solid East Indian rosewood back and sides, and a mahogany neck. Only 50 Louvin D-28s are available. List price is (appropriately, we must say) $4,666.
000RS25 Navojoa 25th Anniversary Model Commemorating the 25th anniversary of Martin’s Navojoa facility in Mexico, this 000 body road series model features a solid Sitka spruce top with scalloped “X” series bracing and solid sapele back and sides. The modified low oval neck is made of solid Sipo with an East Indian rosewood fingerboard and a headplate displaying a pad printed 25th anniversary logo. Price is $1,349.
OMXAE Black and the DXAE Black These new X-series guitars—an OM and a dreadnought—are non-cutaway acoustic electrics in sleek, uber-cool jet black; includes Fishman electronics that allow direct input to your computer. $699.
D-18 Sycamore This model celebrates 50 years at Martin’s Sycamore Street location in Nazareth, Pennsylvania. A dreadnought with solid sycamore back and sides, and a Sitka spruce top naturally aged through a process known as torrefaction, which employs high temperatures to remove moisture from the wood, giving the instrument the appearance and warmth of an aged guitar. Production limited to 50; list price $3,299.
