Lou Reed Public Memorial Set for November 14 in NYC
A public memorial will be held in honor of Lou Reed on November 14 in New York City's Lincoln Center from 1-4 PM. It will take place at Lincoln Center's Paul Milstein Pool and Terrace and will be open to the public.
According to the official Facebook post, the memorial will be "a gathering open to the public — no speeches. no live performances, just Lou's voice, guitar music & songs — playing the recordings selected by his family and friends."
The video above illustrates exactly how we like to remember Mr. Reed. On Elvis Costello's show, Spectacle, he kindly demonstrates the correct way to play the riff to "Sweet Jane," a riff that is perennially misinterpreted by guitarists. Though, after demonstrating the "correct" way to play it, he added, "I mean, there's so many ways to do it. You know...that hour, that day you recorded, it had this [chord change], so that's the way, technically, it goes."
