EXCLUSIVE: Ryan Hobler Premieres Video for 'All Along'

Posted on April 2, 2014 | by David Knowles

In the haunting new video for his song "All Along," New York folk-pop songwriter and guitarist Ryan Hobler pays tribute to a dark episode from his childhood.

"My Grandpa was murdered when I was five years old. He was stabbed by a mugger one morning in his apartment elevator and died as a result. To lose a close family member like that - and in such an abrupt and violent way - affected me irrevocably and I never looked at the world the same," Hobler told Acoustic Guitar. "To this day, I still feel robbed of his presence and, often, I find myself wishing I could have had the chance to get to know him better."

Hobler and his brother, Kieran, shot the video in the elevator lobby of a New York building that evokes a somber atmosphere.

'"All Along' is about a dream encounter with my grandfather and is my attempt to address this wish as well as my hope for the greater meaning of it all," Hobler said.

The song will be on a Hobler's forthcoming, but as yet untitled album. For more information on Hobler, check out RyanHobler.com.
