Ben Harper and Mom Keep It in the Family on New Album
Ben Harper is bringing it all back home this week, in anticipation of the upcoming release of Childhood Home, a new album the three-time Grammy winner recorded with his mom Ellen.
With the album slated to hit record store shelves May 6, the Harpers have been on an East Coast media blitz, making the rounds on such news shows as NPR Weekend Edition and CBS This Morning, and performing their first-ever concert together April 21 at the Rockwood Music Hall in New York.
Childhood Home features the Harpers on an all-acoustic set of songs ranging topically from childhood memories (“A House Is a Home”) to romantic relationships (“Altar of Love”) to the evils of corporate agribusiness (“Monsanto: Farmer’s Daughter”).
Over the course of his 20-year recording career, singer-guitarist Harper has enjoyed several top-ten charting albums ranging in style from blues to gospel to pop. Ellen is a singer and multi-instrumentalist in her own right, having performed in various bands when Ben and his brothers were growing up.
