Acoustic Songs Highlight New Patriotic Comedy Album '2776'

As the Founding Fathers no doubt envisioned, patriotism, comedy, and acoustic guitars have finally formed a more perfect union—at least that’s the case with a newly released satirical album featuring some of the biggest names in music and comedy.

Available online this week just in time for the Fourth of July weekend, 2776 brings together more than 80 performers—including musical acts including Neko Case, Aimee Mann, k.d. lang, and Sergio Mendoza —for a concept album which casts a bemused eye at all things America. “From sports to sex to the media, from religion to war to technology, nothing is spared,” according to press materials for the album.

Contributing to the Constitutional Comedy Convention of 2776 are Andy Richter, Will Forte, Kids in the Hall, Samantha Bee, comedian/soul man Reggie Watts, and comedian/bluegrass aficionado Ed Helms.

The full 28-song album is on iTunes, Amazon, and CDBaby—and is streaming on SoundCloud.

In true American spirit, the good-natured fun is all for a good-natured cause—proceeds will benefit OneKid OneWorld, a nonprofit that promotes education in Kenya and El Salvador.

And check out the above clip of Aimee Mann, with David Wain and Dave Foley, in the video for one of the standout cuts from the album, “I’m Cured."
