“Will the Circle Be Unbroken” is in the key of G. Notice that the G sometimes shifts to G7 before moving to the next chord. The progression is an unbroken circle in itself: expressed in Roman numerals, the song goes from I to IV (C) and V (D) and back to I (G).

When you’re playing “Will the Circle Be Unbroken”—especially with other people—try to maintain the groove and keep the beat. It’s always a good thing not to break the circle!
