Ribbecke Guitars Halfling

“I started making this as a sister to the Scott Chinery blue guitar collection’s Blue Mingione guitar, back when the original instrument was made. I used the next flitch of wood, cut from the same billet, so its grain pattern, like a fingerprint, is almost identical. It had hung in my rafters—the completed sides, the top with only on the outside roughed out, and nearly finished back—for all that time (Blue Mingione was made in 1995), dusted occasionally. It was a great pleasure to be able to finish the project after almost 20 years, and the chance to build its sister in my Halfling style (in which half of the top is arched, and the other half is flat) as a ‘then and now concept’ was a great opportunity to explore the evolution of the design.”—Tom Ribbecke
