Play "Nearer, My God, To Thee" for Fingerstyle Guitar
I find this song to be a moving example of the human longing for spiritual assurance in times of vulnerability: “Darkness be over me, my rest a stone / Yet in my dreams I’d be nearer, my God, to thee.”
One need not subscribe to any particular religious doctrine to be profoundly touched by such feeling, and to appreciate the passion and talent that produced this song. Perhaps this is another reason “Nearer, My God, to Thee” is so widely loved.
