Play "Careless Love" on Mandolin
This song was part of the earliest blues repertoire and has antecedents in American and European folk songs; that is to say, it’s old. The eight-bar excerpt shown here is played mostly with double-stops on low and high string pairs in closed positions, but the arrangement includes a tag in which the Eb on the A string at the sixth fret is played against the open E string. This manner of playing a slurred third is commonly used by blues mandolinists.
