I Ain't Got Nobody
David Lee Roth notwithstanding, the definitive version of “I Ain’t Got Nobody” remains the one by Louis Prima, whose hit 1956 medley with “Just a Gigolo” continues to turn up in Mafia movies on a regular basis. But if you can get by without the medley aspect, check out Benny Goodman’s sublime small-group version, Fats Waller’s solo recording, or Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys’ western swing yodel-fest. The Goodman and Waller versions are in the key of F. The song’s first eight bars are shown below.
