Do the Mandolin Boogie

Posted by Steve James

Did someone mention rock ’n’ roll? “Mandolin Boogie” is a 12-bar riff constructed around standard chord changes. Use down and up pick strokes to swing the eighth-note downstrokes. Use your index, middle, and ring fingers (but don’t curl that little one up!).

Despite its relatively high voice and bright sound, the mandolin can be a very effective rhythm instrument, as can be heard here. Polish this one up and bring it to a jam session, and see what the guitar and harmonica players do when you break it out.
