The deadline for the 2002 contest has passed, so no additional submissions will be considered for this year's contest. Please check back for information about upcoming contests.

We had so much fun listening to the hundreds of recordings submitted by Acoustic Guitar readers for the Homegrown CD Awards last year that we're going to do it again! Just as before, we're looking for projects created entirely outside of the recording industry's borders, music that is played, recorded, produced, packaged, released, and sold by the artists themselves. We'll identify the three highest-quality projects and present them in Acoustic Guitar magazine, along with all the glorious details that went into making them. We'll also put audio samples and ordering information here on our Web site and provide each winner with a $500 gift certificate from First Quality Musical Supplies.

Qualifications

To qualify for this contest, all recordings must be:

Full-length CDs (no cassettes), released no earlier than January 1, 2001
Any style of music that prominently features acoustic guitar
Primarily recorded and produced by the artist
Released on the artist's own label (recordings from multiple-artist labels, even if they're artist-owned, do not qualify)
Available by phone, mail, or the Web
Accompanied by a completed entry form (available on-line or by mail, as detailed below)

Deadlines

The deadline for the 2002 contest has passed, so no additional submissions will be considered for this year's contest. Please check back for information about upcoming contests.

Entries must be received by December 31, 2001. If you'd like confirmation that your package arrived, enclose a self-addressed, stamped postcard with "Yes, my CD arrived safely." written on the back. Sorry, but we won't be able to give any further status reports on submissions, so save your calls (we'd rather spend our time listening to your CDs!). The three winners will be notified individually, then posted on the Web site and published in our July 2002 issue.

Judging

The judges are the Acoustic Guitar editors. We'll be evaluating the quality and originality of the CDs from all angles: the music itself, the recording, and the packaging and presentation. We'll also take into account the description of how the CD was made, favoring recordings with interesting background stories as well as good music. Finally, we'll be looking for a variety of playing and recording styles.

Prizes

Each Homegrown winner will receive a $500 gift certificate from First Quality Musical Supplies (www.fqms.com), a Louisville, Kentucky-based purveyor of fine guitars and gear.
