Appearance Together August 8

MILL VALLEY, CA. (June 17, 2013) – Three of the nation’s finest guitarists will perform at the Fingerstyle Guitar Summit at the 142 Throckmorton Theatre in Mill Valley, California, on August 8th at 8 p.m. Michael Chapdelaine, Mark Goldenberg and Kinloch Nelson, who individually represent the height of guitar mastery, will play on the same bill together for the first time. Tickets to the 142 Throckmorton Theatre performance (prices range from $20-$35) are available at the box office (hours: 2pm-6pm, Mon-Sat) or online. For more information, call (415) 383-9600.

Chapdelaine studied with Andres Segovia and is the only person ever to have won the world’s top competitions in both “fingerstyle” and “classical” guitar. Acoustic Guitar Magazine wrote of his recording, Sonata Romantica, “If I were marooned on a desert island with a limited selection of recordings, this one would be among my choices . . . I have seldom heard a more beautiful album. Other young guitarists have excellent technique, but few have such style and musicality, and Chapdelaine’s beautiful tone is the nearest to Segovia’s that I can recall.” Chapdelaine has redefined the modern acoustic guitar with his amazing technique, soulful expressiveness, and versatility as a performer, composer, and producer. His performances, played on both steel string and classical guitars, include musical styles ranging from blues to Bach to country to rhythm n’ blues.

Goldenberg has been lead guitarist for Jackson Browne since 1994 and has played and recorded with numerous artists, including Bonnie Raitt, Linda Rondstadt, Chris Isaak, and Peter Frampton. Somewhere between Michael Hedges and Joe Pass, Goldenberg creates music that is both evocative and reflective. As a songwriter and producer, his works have been recorded by Linda Rondstadt, Chicago, the Pointer Sisters, Natalie Imbruglia, and Olivia Newton John. Jackson Browne has said of Goldenberg’s solo fingerstyle recording, “powerful, graceful, deeply melodic, and above all, emotional – Mark Goldenberg’s stunning collection of acoustic guitar pieces shows off the imagination and technical excellence that fellow artists and record producers have relied on for years, although seldom is he credited for the formidable compositional strength that is on display here.” Mark is currently on tour with Hugh Laurie.

Nelson is an acclaimed composer, arranger, recording artist, and teacher, whose 45-year career has run the gamut from classical recitals and folk concerts to club and festival dates playing country, rockabilly, R & B and jazz. Over the years Nelson has played with such notables as Tom Paxton, Luther Alison, Buddy Guy, and long-time influence Danny Gatton, among others. Nelson's work has appeared in Acoustic Guitar Magazine, been reviewed in Just Jazz Magazine, and featured on PBS TV. His current recording, Kinloch Plays Tunnel 13, was recorded using handcrafted guitars built from Redwood timbers salvaged from the tunnel where the infamous robbery of the Gold Special #13 train occurred in 1923. One of the Petros Guitars used on the recording is constructed of this master-grade tonewood, air-dried for more than 120 years. The Portland Press Herald said, "A musician of incredible depth and breadth, Kinloch Nelson plays with the virtuosity of a classical master and the sensibility of a pop performer."

The three performers will be giving demonstrations of custom made guitars and holding workshops at the Healdsburg Guitar Festival, which runs from August 9th through 11th.
