Hello,

Jimmy, you should still check out Gel nails - especially if you do not require a lengthy nail plate. Some of my students only require 1mm above the tip - and the Gel just gives it that extra bit of durability. I would still suggest trying it for a month.

Jim, I think you've received good advice here. Everyone I know that plays gigs on a regular basis uses artificial nails applied by a professional. They use a clear polish for added strength. they will wear down and get a hook or wear spot just like your real nails. Most just use a sandpaper nail file to tune them up until it's finally time to replace them. Keep the sandpaper file in your guitar case or gig bag. Like you I cant grow long nails without them breaking. Yeah when I zip up as well. Also as you get older nails develop uneven surfaces that can be a problem only solved with using artificial nails or finger picks.
