Strap Buttons

Strap Buttons

Why don't the manufacturers put strap buttons on or have pre drilled placements as standard? All three of my guitars had only one strap button, which has meant dropping them off to the local music shop to fit the additional button. I may be missing the point here and this may just be a matter of preference. I was wondering what other guitarists thought on this issue? As I am poor at practical matters, it is an issue when you want to gig your Gibson acoustic, but are scared to make a pigs ear of fitting the required strap button.

I use a strap, the lead from the strap loops around the top of the neck and as a button hanging from it for your guitar strap. I use a rubber seal from a Grolsh beer bottle to hold the guitar strap on the lead. It works fine and avoids drilling your guitar. I have had a look at mine and cannot see the makers name but it was from e-bay and was very cheap.

Have you asked the guitar manufacture? What did they say?
I prefer not having them put that strap button on the heal. I like placing it myself. If course I am not afraid to take drill in hand. Perhaps they got a lot of flak for putting those buttons on where no one likes them and decided to leave it up to the owner?

You may avoid drill for the Missing button : you may tie the strap to the head stock with a lace or use un little leather piece instead of à lace.

I'm assuming that you are referring to the "missing" button at the guitar's neck. Yeah, I've wondered about that too. Though some people seem to prefer tieing a string around the neck near the peg head. And some people (Like me, for instance.) always play sitting down!
Still, It seems that the vast majority of players who use a strap will install a button near the heel.
