Calluses

Calluses

Hello, I would like the opinions of others on the importance and/or the significance of calluses. Thank you!

Calluses take a while to form (two or three weeks of a couple hours a day playing) but they eventually pad your fingertips to where it no longer hurts. Calluses also make hammer-on notes better. When you get to the point that your calluses start catching the strings, file them down, just like your nails.

I always had calluses on my hands, even as a child working on the ranch. Have you ever notice the way calluses form and remain on different people? The older guys (on the ranch) handed me a tin of Mink Oil to rub into the calluses when I was a kid. I am still doing it. Keeps those calluses nice and silky smooth baby! Talk about keeping sensation alive at the tip of your fingers, with quasi-leather protection to boot.
Cheers, Jimmy

Hello,

I was hoping to receive more responses.

Thus far, would you agree then, that calluses are an important and therefore, essential component of guitar playing?
