Acoustic Chamber Music Concert in KCMo April 12

Acoustic Chamber Music Concert in KCMo April 12

Just doing an initial post here about a concert I'm doing in KCMO this fri. There will be some fingerstyle guitar on the concert as well as a sax qrt and solo piano. WOuld be cool to meet some AG readers at this event. April 7, 2014 For Immediate Release: Nica's 320 will present an evening of 'New Chamber Music' by the Kansas City based composer/guitarist Kevin Hiatt on April 12th(fri) at 7 pm. Performing along with Hiatt will be the KC Java Saxophone Quartet and pianist Sean Martinez. The concert will feature the first KC performance of 'Migrant Contours' for saxophone quartet and the world premiere of 'Conan Returns to the Village' for piano solo. The KC Java Saxophone Quartet is an emerging chamber group composed of Keri Wing, Jacob Russell, Tyler Graves and Dave Berrios all recent graduates or current students of the KU School of Music. Together they will combine their musical skills in classical performance and jazz improvisation as they present Hiatt's 'Migrant Contours' and other works by Bernstein, Grainger and Shostakovitch. Sean Martinez graduated from the Longy School of Music in Boston before relocating to the Kansas City area where he works as a freelance pianist, accompanist, and teacher. He will be performing Hiatt's 'Sat Tirath' and the world premiere of 'Conan Returns to the Village', a work that requires the performer to improvise as part of the live performance. Martinez will also present works from the Spanish impressionist Granados and by the French composer Erik Satie. Finishing out the evening will be Kevin Hiatt performing several of his fingerstyle guitar instrumentals on 6,7,12 string and baritone guitars. Hiatt's playing has been compared to that of Leo Kottke but with the harmonic and formal complexity of classical music. Hiatt's concert music has been performed twice by the Medical Arts Symphony most recently in November of 2012 with the premiere of 'Two Arias' for soprano and string orchestra. Nica's 320 located at 320 SW Blvd(KCMO) features a varied menu of world fusion cuisine; fine wines, and innovative cocktails.
